Leadership

Breakthrough Junior Challenge is an initiative from the Breakthrough Prize in co-operation with Khan Academy and Common Pool.

The Breakthrough Prizes were founded by Sergey Brin and Anne Wojcicki, Jack Ma and Cathy Zhang, Yuri and Julia Milner, and Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan. The prizes aim to celebrate scientists and generate excitement about the pursuit of science as a career. Laureates of each prize are chosen by its respective Selection Committee, comprised of previous recipients of the prize.

Khan Academy is an educational non-profit offering practice exercises, instructional videos, and a personalized learning dashboard that empower learners to study at their own pace in and outside of the classroom. It tackles math, science, computer programming, history, art history, economics, and more. Its math missions guide learners from kindergarten to calculus using state-of-the-art, adaptive technology that identifies strengths and learning gaps.

Common Pool is a global consulting firm focused exclusively on the design, development, and management of prize competitions, challenges, and other forms of incentive-based programming. Our clients and partners include public, commercial, and philanthropic organizations. Common Pool is unique in that we work closely with our clients to design competitions, which meet their intended outcome. Rather than constraining design by the limits of a product or software service, Common Pool brings a wide network of tools and partnerships to each engagement. This allows us to lead with the best possible design and then to build infrastructure and support to meet those design requirements.
